Be Part of the Next Big Opportunity in Rural Alberta
Reviving the Small Towns We Love Through AI Development
Rural populations in Southern Alberta are shrinking as cities boom, making it harder to fund community services, maintain reliable infrastructure, and grow local businesses. We have the power to change that—if we act now.
At Palliser Grid, our goal is to leverage the economic opportunities from the rising demand of AI development to create a Community Benefit Plan that:
Provides a Steady Income for Farmers & Ranchers
The lease payments from renewable energy sites can be a cash flow cushion to innovate and grow family operations.
Checks Off Boxes on Our Community Wishlist
On top of additional tax revenue, a share of the profits will be put in a community bucket to fund our big dream projects.
Offers an Opportunity for Equity & Ownership
Landowners can become shareholders in Palliser Grid, earning income from the clean power generated on all sites.
Will Server Farms Replace Our Family Farms?
A hyperscale data center may take up around 450 acres, but our farms won’t disappear. With renewable energy powering these operations, we can keep farming alongside solar panels or wind turbines, while earning shared income from the energy we produce—a concept we call “AgEnergy.”
Plus, the water used for data center operations will help grow reservoir capacity, providing additional irrigation water for surrounding farmland.
Reasons to Welcome AI Data Centers Here
We’re proud of our small town hospitality. By opening our doors to AI development, we can bring many benefits home, like:
More Jobs, But Not Too Many
Construction will create plenty of work, but maintenance only needs a fraction. These jobs can bring new families to the area without changing our small-town feel.
Better roads, faster internet, clean water, and reliable power—what's needed to keep a data center running will also improve life for everyone in our counties.
Better Infrastructure
Property taxes or payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT) can help pay for our schools, fire departments, and the projects we care about most, like new hockey rinks.
Millions in Local Revenue
This Once-in-a-Generation Chance Could Pass Us By
Vauxhall and Taber once seized the opportunity to receive irrigation. That decision made it possible to grow high-value crops such as sugar beets and potatoes, helping their towns grow and thrive for generations.
AI data centers could bring real benefits to our home towns on a much, much larger scale. If we wait, it could go to elsewhere.
The more landowners we have on board, the stronger our case becomes for attracting hyperscalers, like Google, Apple, or Meta.
